Energy – Transactional

Fluctuations in the credit market, political uncertainty, climate change and volatile oil and gas prices are creating shifts in the business environment for energy companies, particularly with respect to project development. Thanks to over eighty years of experience, and work in virtually all facets of the energy industry, Liskow is uniquely positioned to provide full-cycle transactional guidance to clients in every segment of the energy industry.

Overview

We advise the full spectrum of energy industry clients, including investors and financial institutions, transmission, oilfield service and of course, exploration and production companies. There is very little we haven’t seen before, from the most complex, high-stakes deals to routine acquisitions and divestitures in which efficiency, reasonable fees and predictability are paramount.

Minimizing the downside, maximizing the upside

At the highest level, our experience also makes us uniquely strategic partners. Our job is not ever simply to get the deal on the table over the finish line. It’s to shape it in order to protect our clients from risks, while putting terms in place that also allow them to capitalize on opportunities. While they’re two sides of the same coin, they require very different perspectives. We can, and do, utilize both to ensure our clients’ upside and downside are both examined, understood and protected.

A deal rapid response team

We also know that transactions can be fast-moving, and demand versatility, subject-matter expertise and close coordination. As a midsized, specialty firm, Liskow is exceptionally skilled at delivering top-notch legal guidance in the most difficult environments. Our lawyers work in small teams – we do not overstaff matters – and can call on firm colleagues with deep experience and knowledge at a moment’s notice. Our energy transaction clients enjoy the benefits of both agility and highly specialized knowledge whenever, and however, it’s required.

Helping make smart decisions

Finally, and perhaps most significantly, we see our role as empowering our clients to make the smartest business decisions possible. We ensure they have the knowledge they need, without burying them in unnecessary – and unnecessarily costly – details. Our job is to handle the legal elements, so they can manage, and prevail, in the business ones. Or, as the saying goes, we make deals as simple as possible but no simpler.

And when all is said and done, the goal of everything we do is to help our clients consummate the transactions that both move their businesses forward, and position them for the future. Although we can’t see into the future, immersed as we are in every facet of the energy business, we can, and do, see around financial corners, and our clients often benefit from that as well. There is truly no substitute for experience, and by bringing that to bear in a high-stakes, rapidly changing commercial undertaking like energy, we’re truly their trusted advisors. They benefit from that – and we’re proud of the value we bring.

“Liskow & Lewis has big firm experience with small firm client handling.”
