Liskow’s reputation was largely built on our foundational unitization practice, which started in the 1940s. We have handled thousands of unitization matters in our long history. This is what we do.

What you can expect

If you are new to Louisiana, our first role is to teach you how Louisiana unitization works and orient you to the regulations and agencies involved. We provide client seminars that are custom tailored to bring your team up to speed, either remote or in-person. We then remain readily available to answer questions by phone or email once you begin working your Louisiana prospects.

As your fluency in Louisiana unitization increases, or if you are already familiar with Louisiana unitization, our role is more strategic. We will help develop concrete plans for implementing your development goals, including ways to minimize costs and lead time by working within any existing regulatory approvals instead of starting over from scratch. Questions will turn from “how does this work?” to “I want to drill this well right here, can I do it?” and “If so, when can we expect our approval or can we do it right now?”

When your plans are finalized, we will handle the regulatory procedures necessary to receive approvals for your units and wells.  We will keep you apprised of the status of your applications during the entire process, from initial filings through receipt and recordation of the resulting agency orders.

As we continue to work with you, we know drill schedules can change, development plans might be modified, geologic and engineering problems could arise, and there will be internal meetings where you are expected to present solutions to those issues.  When you need to pivot, you need quick answers. We pick up our direct phone lines. We return emails the same day, often within an hour or less. We will give you the concise and direct solutions you need to keep your operations running.    

Academics at heart but business in practice

Members of our unitization team are actively involved in legal scholarship and advisory positions, but there is a time and place for such endeavors. When we work with you, we are all business. We will identify and implement practical steps to achieve your goals that are more like bullet-point executive summaries than ivory tower research papers.
