Liskow is proud to announce that Associate Hayley Landry has been named a recipient of The Pro Bono Project’s 2025 Distinguished Service Award. This annual recognition honors lawyers, law firms, students, businesses, and members of the judiciary who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to improving access to justice and delivering high-quality volunteer legal services across the Greater New Orleans community.

The Pro Bono Project provides free civil legal assistance to low-income individuals, families, and seniors across Southeast Louisiana. The organization connects volunteer attorneys with clients facing a wide range of legal challenges—from family law and custody matters to estate planning, property issues, and consumer disputes—helping ensure that all members of the community have access to fair representation and a voice in the legal system.

For the past four years, Hayley has led the firm’s participation in The Pro Bono Project’s CDC Helpdesk Adopt-A-Month Program. In 2025, she coordinated the firm’s efforts in June and September, spending mornings providing notary services and legal resources to pro se domestic litigants while organizing other firm attorneys to take part in this hands-on community initiative.

In addition, Hayley regularly volunteers with the Southeast Louisiana Legal Services (SLLS) in forma pauperis clinic, assisting domestic litigants in completing court filings and navigating the necessary paperwork to pursue their cases.

Hayley’s pro bono leadership has been recognized throughout the legal community. In 2023, she received the Louisiana State Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division Pro Bono Award for her outstanding contributions. She has also served on the Advisory Board of SLLS and as Public Service Co-Chair of the New Orleans Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section.

Hayley was honored at The Pro Bono Project’s Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon & Awards Ceremony on October 23, 2025, where the organization celebrated her contributions and the impact of all award recipients in advancing access to justice

Liskow attorneys Kirk Jones and Kelly Scalise secured a victory for two charitable trusts in the United States Supreme Court. After argument at the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the Fifth Circuit affirmed the grant of summary judgment by the district court, removing a co-trustee and awarding over $10 million in damages to the foundations. The co-trustee then sought a writ of certiorari from the Supreme Court based on a jurisdictional issue of whether the citizenship of unnamed co-trustees should be considered for diversity of citizenship.  The Supreme Court denied the petition, leaving in place the Fifth Circuit’s determination that only the citizenship of the named co-trustee who was the party litigant is considered for diversity purposes.  As was argued by the two foundations, this decision is in accord with Supreme Court precedent regarding trusts as well as decisions of the Seventh and Tenth Circuits.

Liskow attorney Laura Alaniz was recently featured in a Law360 article. Laura joins the firm as of counsel in Houston, bringing decades of experience advising employers on labor and employment matters and representing them in disputes involving wrongful termination, retaliation, harassment, discrimination, and compliance with state and federal statutes.

In her interview, Laura shared that she was drawn to Liskow’s strong presence in the energy sector and its collaborative culture. “This is an opportunity for me to merge my employment experience with that depth of knowledge Liskow has and allow me to provide more targeted support to clients navigating the workplace challenges in that area,” Alaniz told Law360.

In addition to her litigation experience, Laura has represented clients before the U.S. Department of Labor, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the Texas Workforce Commission. She is board certified in labor and employment law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Liskow is pleased to announce that Laura Alaniz has joined the firm’s Labor & Employment practice in the Houston office. She joins from Spencer Fane LLP, where she was a partner in the labor and employment group.

“We are excited to welcome Laura to the firm,” said Michael D. Rubenstein, a shareholder in Houston and member of the firm’s Board of Directors. “She is a highly regarded labor and employment attorney whose broad range of experience brings additional depth to our labor & employment team.”

With more than 25 years of experience, Laura is a skilled litigator and advisor representing employers in all types of employment disputes, including defending employers in lawsuits involving claims of wrongful termination, retaliation, harassment, and discrimination and suits for violations of state and federal statutes such as Title VII, ADA, FMLA, ADEA, FLSA, and the Texas Labor Code. 

In addition to advising employers and their leadership regarding compliance issues, Laura has represented clients in administrative proceedings before state and federal agencies such as the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) and investigated and drafted position statements in such proceedings.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to bring my experience to Liskow’s top-notch labor & employment group,” said Alaniz. “I work with many companies in the industries that Liskow represents and this move allows me to not only enhance the service I can provide to my clients but to also strengthen the team’s ability to represent the complex and diverse needs of today’s companies.”

Laura is certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in labor and employment law. She earned her JD from Baylor University School of Law and her B.S., with High Honors and Special Honors in Speech Communication, from the University of Texas. She has also completed Executive Education in Women’s Leadership at Harvard Law School.
