“Having shipped around the world, I truly understand the challenges and obstacles clients face on the water. On a daily basis, I use my experience as a mariner and my passion for maritime to guide clients through the legal aspect of the industry.”

Overview

Jessie Shifalo is a member of the firm’s Maritime practice group. She is also an experienced mariner, holding a USCG Unlimited Tonnage Master’s license.

Prior to joining the firm, Jessie had an eight-year seagoing career and has experience sailing on oil and chemical tankers, container ships, car carriers, and salvage vessels both domestically and internationally. She spent half of her sailing career working as senior management on vessels and truly understands the day-to-day operations and what happens onboard.

Jessie’s practice expands nationally and includes assisting clients with maritime litigation, vessel collisions and allisions, cargo and charter party disputes, maritime contracts, and emergency and incident response.

Jessie received her Juris Doctor from Tulane Law, where she earned the Admiralty and Maritime Law Certificate and served as the Senior Managing Editor of the Tulane Maritime Law Journal. While in law school, Jessie also served as an intern to the Honorable James L. Dennis of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Jessie is a member of the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association and the Women Offshore MentorShip Program, and she serves as a Vice Chair of the American Bar Association’s TIPS Admiralty & Maritime Law Committee. Jessie was recently recognized by Women Offshore with the 2023 Wave Maker Award.
