Overview

Liskow developed an Emergency Response Team with high-level government and in-house corporate experience to assist clients in all aspects of emergency response. Team members often work with clients before an emergency takes place, having prepared emergency response plans for clients covering Louisiana, Texas, West Virginia, Colorado, and the Gulf of Mexico.

The firm is often the direct contact with representatives of OSHA, BSEE, USCG, and other agencies at the inception of and throughout an incident. The firm has represented oil & gas operators, nonoperators, pipeline owners, barge companies, vessel owners, cargo transfer facilities, and others in numerous major casualties involving drilling rigs and vessels, fixed platforms, transportation facilities, production facilities, refineries, and vessels of all types.

Liskow played a lead role in the response to major workplace safety events including fatalities and major injuries aboard fixed platforms, MODUs and drill ships on the Outer Continental Shelf, maritime incidents involving barges, ships, and terminals in the inland waters of the United States, and onshore incidents occurring at well sites and processing facilities. The firm has served as lead response counsel during recent incidents involving hydrocarbon releases, fires and explosions, vessel allision, barge sinkings, and structural failures occurring in Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, and state and federal waters.

As part of its emergency response resources, team members stand ready to represent clients during agency inspections, agency interviews of company employees, document control and data preservation, internal investigations and root cause analyses, responses to civil and criminal subpoenas, and defense of administrative enforcement actions and criminal investigations.

Notable Experience

The firm’s emergency response experience is based, in part, on having responded to some of the most significant casualty and pollution events affecting the maritime and energy industries. Examples of these events include the Deepwater Horizon matter on behalf of BP, as well as incidents associated with the Deepwater Nautilus, Rowan Reliance, Noble Lorris Bouzigard, and Petronius. In Deepwater Horizon, Liskow served as lead environmental response counsel for the entire Gulf Coast response (Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida) and had several of its lawyers embedded in the claims team for the primary designated responsible party.
