“When you’re a business lawyer, the two top qualities you can have are to listen and to ask questions. Your clients will appreciate that you’ll be able to get deals done efficiently and effectively the first time, and the parties will be able to leave knowing the deal got done how they wanted.”

Overview

C.J. Miller is a business lawyer in the firm’s Lafayette office, with experience practicing in the areas of commercial finance, secured transactions, commercial real estate, general business law, and succession and fiduciary administration.

In these areas, C.J. has worked with:

  • Local, regional, and national banks on all manner of commercial loan projects;
  • Businesses, both as main counsel and local counsel, as they buy, sell, and lease commercial real estate, including land, multifamily housing projects, and commercial and residential developments;
  • Owners and management, as they form new business entities, negotiate and enter into various business contracts, and plan and implement mergers and acquisitions; and
  • Administrators of successions and other fiduciaries, as they seek advice in implementing the provisions of wills and trusts, and heirs and legatees of successions and beneficiaries of trusts, as they seek advice on their rights.

C.J.’s practice routinely leads him to engage in the drafting, negotiation, and review of entity formation documents, operating agreements, bylaws, purchase and sale agreements, commercial lease agreements, loans, mortgages, security agreements, and other transactional documents.

C.J. received his Juris Doctor and Diploma of Comparative Law from Louisiana State University’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center, summa cum laude, where he graduated first in his class and was elected to the Order of the Coif. C.J. served as the Executive Senior Editor of the Louisiana Law Review, and he received the 2016 Association Henri Capitant Award for an Outstanding Comment on a Civil or Comparative Law Topic for his comment, “Boudreaux v. Cummings: Time to Interrupt an Erroneous Approach to Acquisitive Prescription.”
