We pride ourselves on succinct title opinions with practical curative requirements and no fluff.

Overview

For 90 years, we have been providing mineral title opinions for drilling and division order purposes. We have worked with a lot of land departments and a lot of companies. We learned long ago what our clients are looking for in a title opinion. It should be short. It should be simple. It should have clear options for realistic curative and enough information to assess the risks of a waiver. It should not be a novel, a treatise, or a recitation of every instrument in the abstract. It should get right to the point. We understand our audience.

The bulk of our firm’s title work is in Louisiana, but we also have expertise in Texas. In the last few years, our lawyers have been very involved in resource plays in the Eagle Ford Shale, Permian Basin, Haynesville Shale, Tuscaloosa Marine Shale, and the Austin Chalk.

Full Service Title Examination

Our long history of title examination has resulted in a library of over 30,000 prior opinions. We are frequently able to use these opinions to your advantage by updating title rather than starting from severance. We are happy to search our title library at no charge for prior opinions before you begin abstracting to determine if you can start from a more recent date.

Whether you are updating one of our prior opinions or starting from severance, we will coordinate with your abstractor to identify the most cost-effective options for the abstract itself and to ensure it contains the materials we need to provide the most comprehensive opinion.
If we need additional information that is easily obtained, we will ask for it before rendering the opinion instead of making a title requirement. We can also recommend customary pre-curative options to speed up the process for confirming title by eliminating standard title requirements on the front end.

Once you have the opinion, we can assist with all aspects of title curative, including drafting curative instruments and providing alternative recommendations when necessary.

Our goal is to give you a short opinion with achievable curative so you can clear title, file the opinion away, and move on to your next project.

We are known for these strengths

  • Fast and efficient title opinions.
  • Concise opinions that provide practical solutions to title defects.
  • Flexibility to provide a work product that best fits the client’s needs.
