Overview

Paul is an energy and commercial litigator practicing in the firm’s Baton Rouge office. Paul has broad experience with energy, environmental and commercial and business disputes, as well as cases involving oilfield contamination, royalty disputes, mineral regulatory issues, and other aspects of oilfield litigation.

Paul has practiced in a variety of courts, including Louisiana state courts, Louisiana federal district courts, the Louisiana Supreme Court, and the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. He received his Juris Doctor from the Paul M. Hebert, Louisiana State University Law Center in 1984 where he was a member of the Louisiana Law Review.

  • In Black River Crawfish Farms, LLC v King, 17-672 (La. App. 3 Cir. 7/18/18) 246 So.3d 1, Paul obtained summary judgment in favor of his client on the Plaintiff’s legacy claims by establishing that the mineral servitude which formed the basis of the Plaintiff’s claims had lapsed prior to Plaintiff’s acquisition of the property.
  • In McDaniel v. Comstock Oil & Gas Company, LLC, 53,667 (La. App. 2 Cir. 1/13/21) 310 So.3d 670, Paul obtained summary judgment for Comstock against the claims of an employee of a contractor who claimed serious debilitating injuries at a Comstock well site.
  • In the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal, Paul prevailed on the Plaintiffs’ claim and the Fifth Circuit affirmed the dismissal of Plaintiffs’ claims which sought a disgorgement of the client’s profits based upon their constructing of a pipeline on the Plaintiffs’ property but outside a designated servitude.
