“I work closely with employers and their leadership teams as a trusted adviser and experienced litigator in all areas of labor and employment law. Serving as an extension of the HR function, I provide practical guidance and manage disputes so executives, managers, and HR professionals can focus on leading their teams and driving the success of their organizations.”

Laura Alaniz is a trusted adviser and skilled litigator with more than 25 years of experience representing employers in all aspects of labor and employment law. Laura’s practice focuses on advising businesses on regulatory and compliance issues to prevent unnecessary and costly claims. She regularly advises clients on hiring and termination decisions, employee leaves of absence, layoffs, unemployment compensation, and employment handbooks and policies. She also develops and conducts employee and management training programs, and drafts effective and legally binding employment contracts, nondisclosure agreements, and anti-competition / hiring / solicitation agreements aimed at attracting and retaining high-quality employees.

In addition to her advisory work, Laura is an employment litigator. She draws on her broad experience to help clients avoid litigation and minimize risk while strongly positioning them to defend against claims. Laura helps employers and their leadership with the full array of employment disputes, including claims of wrongful termination, retaliation, harassment and discrimination, wage and hour disputes, disability accommodation, breach of contract, and alleged violations of state and federal statutes such as the FLSA, FMLA, WARN, and the Texas workers’ compensation retaliation statute. She has successfully and beneficially resolved hundreds of demand letters, EEOC charges of discrimination, and lawsuits alleging various forms of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and other claims. She represents clients in administrative proceedings before state and federal agencies such as the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) and has investigated and drafted position statements in such proceedings. Laura is Board Certified in Labor and Employment by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

In addition to her employment law practice, Laura also represents clients in equine law. A lifelong horse owner and competitive rider, as well as a member of the U.S. Equestrian Federation and U.S. Hunter Jumper Association, she brings more than 20 years of personal experience in the equine world to her legal practice. This background equips her to navigate equine disputes and transactions with insight, from sales and leases to ownership disputes, liability claims, and veterinary malpractice matters.
