Overview

Patrick Reagin is a litigator primarily representing oil and gas and maritime clients in a broad range of claims and disputes, including personal injury, casualty and high-stakes commercial cases. Patrick also represents a range of clients in toxic exposure and environmental contamination litigation.

Patrick has experience spanning all phases of litigation from initial investigations, discovery and depositions of expert and fact witnesses through research, drafting, and oral argument of motions in state and federal courts. Patrick brings valuable federal litigation experience to bear due, in part, to having completed a judicial clerkship in the chambers of Senior U.S. District Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana prior to joining the firm.

During his legal studies, he served as a Teaching Assistant in the Legal Research & Writing program and as Research Assistant to Professor Johanna Kalb, in which capacity he assisted with the publication of a case book on International Human Rights Advocacy.

Patrick is fluent in French, and has studied Chinese and Spanish.

Experience

  • Successfully opposed remand to state court of asbestos exposure claims against historical premises defendant and employer relying on federal OCSLA jurisdiction.
  • Obtained dismissal of fraud claims against historical premises defendant in federal asbestos exposure case.
  • Successfully excluded testimony of plaintiff’s treating physicians regarding diagnosis and causation in federal asbestos exposure case.
  • With other firm attorneys, secured summary judgment dismissal of some of the first toxic exposure claims brought by former response workers against major oil company related to oil spill cleanup off the coast of Louisiana for failure to prove medical causation.
  • Successfully briefed and argued against dismissal of claim by homeowner against insurance carrier in state district court, eventually assisting securing favorable settlement.
  • With other firm attorneys, secured significant trial verdict in maritime allision case involving offshore oil and gas platform.
