A Win for Louisiana Taxpayers

On December 5, 2018, the Louisiana Supreme Court ruled in favor of Louisiana taxpayers confirming a lower court ruling that Act 109, legislation amending La. R.S. 47:33, a state income tax statute that provides a credit to taxpayers for income taxes paid in other states, is unconstitutional. Liskow handled this litigation for the taxpayers from the ruling of the Nineteenth Judicial District Court for the Parish of East Baton Rouge through the Louisiana Supreme Court decision confirming that Act 109 discriminates against interstate commerce in violation of the Commerce Clause of the United States Constitution.

Liskow Lawyer Appointed as United States Magistrate Judge

The firm is proud to announce the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana selected Liskow & Lewis Lawyer, Dana Marie Douglas, as a United States Magistrate Judge for the District. A U.S. Magistrate Judge is a judicial officer of the district court and is appointed by majority vote of the active district judges of the court. A U.S. magistrate judge is typically selected based upon the recommendations of a merit selection panel composed of local attorneys and citizen representatives. Dana will assume her role as a U.S. Magistrate Judge on January 7, 2019.
