Don Haycraft, shareholder, is the firm’s pro bono case coordinator and a board member of the Pro Bono Project. Not only has he been a successful firm advocate for the Pro Bono Project mentoring colleagues to become involved in the Project, he has taken many difficult cases involving wage claims, construction contract disputes, family law and successions/Road Home matters. He has also facilitated the handling of numerous cases by arranging for his firm to graciously accommodate large groups of law student volunteers in the firm’s auditorium and conference rooms.
Kerry Murphy and Kindall James, firm associates, volunteered their time and talents to the Project this year by representing two local restaurant workers in securing several months’ worth of unpaid overtime wages. The successful outcomes in these cases represent a significant contribution to the community. Kerry also worked with the Loyola Law Clinic representing workers in immigration proceedings following a workplace raid in Laurel, Mississippi.
In 2008, Liskow & Lewis was named one of two law firms as the “2008 Pro Bono Law Firms” with more than 800 pro bono hours committed to the Project.
The Pro Bono Project was created in 1986 by the Louisiana Bar Foundation to address the need for legal services to the poor. Presently, The Project's volunteer panel includes over 1400 attorneys representing approximately 20% of the private bar of the metropolitan area and covers the volunteer spectrum from solo practitioners to in-house corporate counsel to the largest firms.
