Mr. Bennett is the head of the New Orleans office business law practice group. He represents clients in corporate and commercial matters.

He has extensive experience in a wide range of business matters including real estate, commercial and energy lending, ship construction and documentation, ship mortgage and marine financing, secured transactions, mergers and acquisitions, distributorship and sales representative agreements, and gaming law.

He belongs to several of the leading national, state and local banking, finance and gaming professional associations. 

Representative Matters:
  • Represented newspaper publisher in formation of company and in acquisition of south Louisiana’s largest daily newspaper
  • Represented chemical company in negotiations for a multi-year requirements contract for feedstock material
  • Represented owners of new business in formation of company and in acquisition of the largest liftboat fleet operating in the Gulf of Mexico
  • Represented offshore supply vessel operator in refinancing of fleet and related corporate and vessel documentation matters
  • Represented energy exploration and production companies in acquisitions of oil and gas properties located on the outer continental shelf in the Gulf of Mexico
  • Represented private equity firm with respect to possible investment in new chemical plant project in Louisiana
  • Represented numerous financial institutions in various asset-based loan transactions, including financing vessel and real estate acquisitions, and in loan transactions with producing oil and gas properties and pipelines as collateral
  • Represented administrative agent as pipeline counsel in collateralizing syndicated credit facility to pipeline operator
  • Acted as local counsel to oil and gas company in acquisition and financing of onshore oil and gas assets
  • Represented chemical company in purchase and carveout of portion of existing chemical plant
  • Represented national bank in revision of lending forms for use in Louisiana
  • Represented company engaged in fisheries operations with Jones Act and American Fisheries Act compliance matters and financing requirements
  • Represented offshore vessel supply company in the sale of its fleet of vessels
  • Acted as local counsel to publicly traded gaming company in acquisition of company licensed to conduct riverboat gaming operations in Louisiana and creation of Louisiana subsidiary used for the acquisition
  • Acted as lead counsel to majority owner of NBA franchise in sale of team
  • Represented grocery distributorship in acquisitions of other grocery distributors and in the financings required for such acquisitions
  • Acted as lead counsel on syndicated loan to company wetlands mitigation credit banking company
  • Acted as counsel to non-profit association of E&P companies with respect to governance issues
  • Represented lenders in analyzing intercreditor obligations, bank collateral position and alternatives in handling troubled credit facilities, and in workouts and redocumentation of troubled credit facilities
