Mr. Wooley's practice focuses primarily on business disputes, including employment-related matters and discrimination claims, energy and environmental litigation, and indemnity issues. His experience includes appeals as well as trials and arbitrations.

Mr. Wooley is certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in civil trial and appellate law. He also holds a certification with the National Board of Trial Advocacy in civil trial advocacy. Prior to joining Liskow & Lewis, he was a partner at Burns, Wooley, Marseglia & Zabel, LLP in Houston.

Representative matters include:
  • Represented a major energy company in a federal court lawsuit involving claims related to stock options and severance benefits; obtained judgment on the pleadings or summary judgment on most claims in the case and the remaining claims were settled before trial on terms satisfactory to the client
  • Obtained summary judgments for employer client in several cases brought under the Americans With Disabilities Act and prevailed on appeal to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in one case that was appealed
  • Obtained summary judgment for an employer client in a case brought under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, which was affirmed by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals
  • Assisted an employer client in negotiating a mediated settlement of discrimination claims based on age and race
  • Obtained a favorable jury verdict and judgment for a manufacturing company in a Texas district court lawsuit to enforce a covenant not to compete and protect trade secrets, secured affirmance of the trial court’s judgment in the 14th Court of Appeals and denial of discretionary review in the Supreme Court of Texas
  • Obtained a favorable jury verdict, including rejection of all counterclaims urged by former-employee defendants, on behalf of a distribution company in a Texas district court lawsuit to enforce covenants not to compete; the final judgment enforced the covenants not to compete and awarded damages and attorney’s fees to the employer
  • Represented, at different times, employers and employees, in preliminary injunction hearings involving covenants not to compete and claims of tortious interference and misappropriation of trade secrets
  • Obtained a take nothing judgment for an independent oil and gas producer client after trial of a former consultant’s claim that he was entitled to continuing periodic payments until served with written notice of termination
  • As appellate counsel, obtained judgment reversing and rendering a multi-million dollar judgment against a property insurer
  • Represented clients in arbitrations under AAA and NASD (now FINRA) rules
  • Advised clients regarding compliance with federal and Texas employment law
  • Assisted clients with review and update of employment policies and procedures
  • Assisted both employer and employee clients with review, revisions, or initial preparation of employment agreements and severance agreements
