Litigation involving oil, gas and other commercial matters is the primary emphasis of Mr. Johanson's practice. 

Mr. Johanson's notable cases include:

• Obtained summary judgment finding Department of the Interior "price threshold" conditions on deep water royalty relief violated the unambiguous terms of the Outer Continental Shelf Deep Water Royalty Relief Act. Kerr-McGee Oil & Gas Corp. v. U.S. Dep’t of Interior, __ F.3d __, 2009 WL 57883 (5th Cir. Jan. 12, 2009) (pending).
• Obtained summary judgment dismissing claim for breach of contract and liquidated damages arising from offshore oil and gas contract. Bois D’Arc Energy, Inc. v. BHP Billiton Petroleum (Deepwater), Inc., 2008 WL 2080747 (E.D. La.) (5/16/08).
• Assumed representation of individual on appeal of federal false statement conviction and, with other firm attorneys, obtained full reversal from the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. U.S. v. Individual, 467 F.3d 496 (5th Cir. 2006).

While earning a law degree from Tulane University, he was the senior articles editor of Tulane Law Review and was awarded the Faculty Medal, which recognizes the student with the highest cumulative GPA.  He also received the John Minor Wisdom Award for academic excellence in legal scholarship.  Following graduation and before joining the firm, Mr. Johanson served as a judicial law clerk in the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana.  Mr. Johanson speaks French and Spanish and taught French at St. Francis Xavier School in Metairie prior to attending law school.
