Senate Confirms Polite as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana

Kenneth Allen Polite, Jr., an attorney with Liskow & Lewis since 2010, has been confirmed by the full U.S. Senate as the new U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana. President Obama nominated Mr. Polite for the position in June 2013, with Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., providing her recommendation of Mr. Polite for the position.

At Liskow & Lewis, Mr. Polite headed the firm’s Government Investigations and White Collar Criminal Defense group. His practice included the areas of business litigation, appellate advocacy, and government investigations and white collar criminal defense. Through his career as a federal prosecutor, criminal defense attorney, and corporate litigator, Mr. Polite’s experience has included jury trials, internal investigations, regulatory and administrative proceedings, and an extensive motion practice.

Before joining Liskow & Lewis, Mr. Polite served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. In that role, he acted as lead counsel in dozens of investigations and prosecutions of federal criminal offenses, including bribery, extortion, narcotics trafficking, money laundering, and identity theft. In addition to several jury trial convictions in the areas of public corruption and organized crime, Mr. Polite’s experience as a federal prosecutor includes successfully briefing and arguing several cases before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

Prior to serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in New York, Mr. Polite practiced for six years with a New York-based law firm. He received his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from the Georgetown University Law Center in 2000. Mr. Polite is also a 1997 graduate of Harvard University.

Polite Named YLC Role Model
Shareholder Kenneth Allen Polite, Jr. has been named a member of the Young Leadership Council's (YLC) 2013 Role Models. Mr. Polite and the 2013 Role Model class will be honored at the YLC's 27th Annual Role Model Gala, Saturday, August 10 at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans.

Polite Receives Recommendation for U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana

U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., has recommended Liskow & Lewis shareholder Kenneth Allen Polite, Jr. for the position of U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana. Pending confirmation, Mr. Polite will assume the role of U.S. Attorney, replacing former U.S. Attorney Jim Letten, who resigned from the post in December 2012.

“Kenneth is an exceptional lawyer with impeccable legal credentials, and has made remarkable contributions to our firm. But just as importantly, his personal standards of integrity and principle are exemplary. I can think of no one whom I would support for that key role more enthusiastically than Kenneth,” said R. Keith Jarrett, Liskow & Lewis’ President and Managing Partner.

“Throughout his career, Kenneth has displayed an impressive commitment to public service and is enthusiastic about this opportunity to serve our country,” he added.

A native New Orleanian, Mr. Polite currently heads the firm’s Government Investigations and White Collar Criminal Defense practice. He formerly served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York from 2007–2010. In that role, he served as lead counsel in dozens of investigations and prosecutions of federal criminal offenses, including bribery, extortion, narcotics trafficking, money laundering, and identity theft. In addition to several jury trial convictions in the areas of public corruption and organized crime, Mr. Polite’s experience as a federal prosecutor includes successfully briefing and arguing several cases before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Polite is a graduate of Harvard University and the Georgetown University Law Center. He served as a law clerk for the Honorable Thomas L. Ambro, Circuit Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, from 2001–2002.

Polite Named to Board of The Pro Bono Project
Shareholder Kenneth Allen Polite, Jr. has been named to the board of directors of the Pro Bono Project. The Pro Bono Project provides free, quality civil legal services to those in need. Volunteer attorneys with The Pro Bono Project serve clients in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, St. Tammany, and Washington parishes. The Pro Bono Project works in collaboration with other social service providers to improve the quality of life for its clients and the community.

Polite Appointed to Louisiana Civil Service Commission
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has appointed Liskow & Lewis shareholder Kenneth Allen Polite Jr. to the Louisiana State Civil Service Commission. Mr. Polite was nominated for appointment by Xavier University to represent the state’s Second Congressional District, as required by statute, and will serve a six-year term.

Louisiana’s State Civil Service Commission is a seven-member review board with authority over the Civil Service System, the state’s central personnel agency. The commission comprises seven members, six of which are appointed by the governor, selected from nominations submitted by the presidents of the state’s major private universities, and the seventh member is an employee representative elected by fellow state employees. One member must reside in each congressional district. The Commission works to enact and adjudicate Civil Service Rules regulating state personnel activities, and hears appeals from state employees and agencies.

Mr. Polite, a former Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, practices in the areas of business litigation, appellate advocacy, and government investigations and white collar criminal defense. He was recently named to the Board of Directors of the Young Leadership Council, a nonprofit, non-partisan civic organization created to develop leadership among young professionals through community projects in the greater New Orleans area. Mr. Polite is also an active member of the boards of directors of the De La Salle Alumni Association and the New Orleans College Prep Charter School.

He is a graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center, where he received his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, in 2000. Mr. Polite received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University in 1997.

Giarrusso and Polite Elected to Leadership Positions Within Young Leadership Council
Shareholders Joseph I. Giarrusso III and Kenneth Allen Polite, Jr. have been elected to leadership positions in the Young Leadership Council (YLC), a nonprofit, non-partisan civic organization created to develop leadership among young professionals through community projects in the greater New Orleans area.

Mr. Giarrusso, who has previously served as an Executive Board Member, Vice President of Projects, and Secretary/General Counsel, will serve as President of the YLC, effective January 1, 2011, following a year of service as President-Elect. Mr. Polite has been elected to serve as a member of the YLC’s Board of Directors in the organization’s 25th year, which will be marked by several community improvement projects and career and leadership development opportunities for YLC members.

Shareholder Michael D. Rubenstein previously served as a YLC officer, and several Liskow & Lewis attorneys are committed to community improvement by remaining actively involved in the YLC.
